Only the Good Die Young

Today was the birthday of Bruce Lee (1940-1973.) He was not only perhaps the greatest martial artist who ever lived, he was also a great philosopher. In his short life, he learned or intuited universal secrets that were formerly in the province of ancient sages.

He was an amazing man with a perfectly disciplined body and mind. Read these gems and your life will be better.

"A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at."

"The mind is like a fertile garden in which anything that is planted, flowers or weeds, will grow."

"As you think, so shall you become."

"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."

"Knowledge will give you power, but character, respect."

"Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them."

"To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one's potential."

"If you love life, don't waste time, for time is what life is made up of."

"Real living is living for others."

"Love is like a friendship caught on fire."

"The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering."

We remember you, Bruce. And in our recollection lies your immortality. Thank you for the lessons and the love.

R.I.P. Mr. Lee.

Nice remembrance. Would you believe I never saw any of his films? I saw that famous scene of him and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcinder) but that's about it.

I guess I'll have to have a look.

Nihilistic,

Yes, I find that one both encouraging and comforting.

Mist,

That was my exact last sentence, accidentally deleted while cut-and-pasting into the blog.

Thank you for replacing it!

Dan,

Who could forget The Footprint?

He was mindblowing to watch, but I'm most fascinated by his mind.

He was a truly amazing man. The world was lucky to know him, if even for a short time.

Velvet Girl,

You're so right. Maybe he left us early because he completed his life's lessons early, but he is missed.

Thank you for your visit!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Bruce Lee! Thank you so much for this post. Anyone who has not seen a Bruce Lee film, has not seen real martial arts. He was so quick, he was sometimes asked to redo sequences because the cameras hadn't caught everything.

Today's computer-simulated martial arts films don't have anything on Mr. Lee.

Katrice,

He was wonderful. Another area in which you and I have that separated-at-birth thing going.

Please feel free to swipe one of these pix for your monthly hunk feature.

I was only 4 (almost 5) years old when he died but I can still remember how my sister cried. She loved him so much.

Djn,

It's always amazing that one life can touch so many. Especially when that one life is so short.
