Funeral Music Meme
This meme asks me to share the music I would like played at my funeral, and to tag someone. I think everyone I know has been tagged already but if not, please plan your funeral with us.
I would like them to play Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." Twice, because it's short. By the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Orchestra.
"My Way" by Frank Sinatra. I have tried always to do it my way, even when it wasn't a good idea. Even when it was an unimaginably bad idea.
"Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye. Because if I'm hovering, I'd like to hear his voice again.
"At Last" by Etta James, if Flip goes first. Because I love it, and because of the line, "Here we are in Heaven."
"Waiting In Vain" by Bob Marley, if I go first. "I still can wait some more."
"Lulu's Back in Town" played by Ellis and Branford Marsalis while exiting, (the mourners, that is. I will presumably have exited already,) because it's so upbeat. And I'll be dancing along with them, even if nobody sees me.

Your funeral sounds like a lot of fun. In a good way. I like the notion of longing/waiting/reconciliation as a theme.
Well, I hope they do a LITTLE crying at least.
Hmm, maybe I should choose some really bad music to ensure it.
Longing, waiting, reconciliation -- it sounds a lot like Life.
Love the list!!! and no, don't do any of that wailing music!!!
Peace
Haha! I had "Let's Get It on" by Marvin Gaye on my list and someone suggested I was a necrophiliac. I just thought it'd be a great story if there was some drunken making-out at my party...I mean funeral.
Odat,
I'm glad you approve. :)
Lee,
Mar-vin! Mar-vin!! MAR-VIN!!!
How could you be a necrophiliac if YOU were the dead person? That's just wrong.
Definately gotta make people cry at the funeral. I'm going to hire professional mourners.
You're right...I guess if I were the dead person, I would be the necro-victim. You're logic is impenatrable.
Mist,
Absolutely. There must be professional mourners to prime the pump. If there aren't any, I'm not dying, and that's final.
Lee,
Yeah. My first marriage ended due to a lack of necrophilia on my part. Trust me. I'm an expert.
Good picks. Frankie will always be a fave.
Christina,
Yes. They all will. I hope not to need their services for awhile, though.
Nice. Your list is a great selection. I can't imagine what I what I would play. Maybe some somber high school three piece string doing mozart badly. I think anyone who would attend would get it. And heck, if they didn't, at least I'd have a going away chuckle!
A Marvin Gaye fan eh?
Ya gotta love Marvin Gaye.
Olives,
Just don't have them do a Souza march. It would be too much like high school.
Nihilistic,
YES.
Djn,
And yes again.
Good mix of the mournful (well, we WOULD be mourning) and the celebratory.
Pawlie,
Well, I certainly hope there will be some mourning. But which part of it did you find mournful? I mean the music, not the dead person part.
Great list. I think I put My Way on mine, too.
Well, I hope your way is a little less fraught with disaster than my way has often been, Michael.
Sorry, can't do this one. I am with Spike Milligan: I don't mind dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens.
Jake
Jake,
I thought it was Woody Allen who said that. It always makes me giggle, anyway.
Hrm not sure what to say. My husband and I danced to "at last" by Etta James as our first dance, and I walked down the aisle to Jesu, joy of man's desiring. Whatever floats your boat I guess!
