Six Meme

The Individual Voice from her blog of the same name has tagged me with a meme of guilty sixes.

Six has always been my favorite number. I won't say my "lucky number" because it hasn't panned out yet, but still, I like it. I was born in the sixth month, and my birth day is divisible by six. I prefer rounded numbers and letters to angular ones. And then, of course, "guilty" is the name of my blog so I have a lot of stored-up guilt.

SIX GUILTY PLEASURES NO ONE WOULD SUSPECT ME OF HAVING

1. Blogging addictively. Although I'm sure that other bloggers would and do suspect me of this, real life people probably have no idea as I am able to fake normalcy fairly well.
2. Kidnapping abused dogs and finding them better homes
3. Believing that if I only had chocolate cake, everything would be better
4. Being a sticker bush when I am treated as if my needs don't matter
5. Not automatically respecting authority, and in fact, usually distrusting it. My respect has to be earned.
6. Trying to cuss creatively when I feel the need to express myself derisively

SIX GUILTY PLEASURES I WISH I HAD THE COURAGE TO INDULGE

1. Hang gliding
2. Submitting my writing to a publisher
3. Returning to acting
4. Stowing away on a boat to the South Pacific
5. Racing horses
6. Standing up for myself, no matter who I need to confront

SIX PLEASURES I ONCE CONSIDERED GUILTY BUT HAVE EITHER ABANDONED OR MADE PEACE WITH

1. Moving around a lot. I am the kind of person who moves to a place because I can't afford to vacation there. This is probably not optimal.
2. Stealing flowers from public places. I abandoned this one when I grew a conscience.
3. Buying more books and plants than anybody really needs, constantly and without remorse
4. Photographing fathers interacting tenderly with their young daughters
5. Giving stink eye to people who blow smoke in my direction, especially from cigars, and cretins who don't clean up after their dogs
6. Morning coffee to the extent that I get headaches if I don't have any

If you want to do this meme, you're tagged. No pressure. But if you do, please let me know so I won't miss it.

I enjoyed reading this, and I think I'm going to give it a shot. I need to put some thought into it, so it probably won't post until tomorrow. ;)

I just may give this a try. Fathers and daughters, yes that moves me, too.
Take that trip to the S. Pacific. You'll never regret it other than you will want to go back, as I do -- all the time. It is all that you would hope it would be.
And, sometime I want to discuss your theatrical life with you because you've had such intriguing connections.

I love this list (these lists). I share some of your guilty pleasures, at least one per set.

Number 4 in your final list brought everything else home. And also a tear to my eye.

Thank you for your candor.

This one is an interesting idea. :) I just might swipe it.

Should that swiping memes thing go on my list?

:)

I loved this...I might just steal it for myself too!

I give dirty looks to people who blow smoke around me too. I took it up a notch and started giving dirty looks to people who throw their cigarettes out of their cars, this drives me crazy-mad.

Your answer about father and daughter photographs made my heart ache a little...

Good things to have gotten over. I like the fact that you look to cuss creatively. I had to learn to do it effectively, maybe creatively is the way to go.

btw, I awarded you.

that was a very groovy meme ... am thinking I will do it as well, btw you are absolutely lovely.

You really should try hanggliding. If you want to, you can get the courage. It is so well worth it. You can go tandem. Just do research to find a safe person. I did it in Brazil, of all places, in part because Lonely Planet books recommended someone, and he was indeed safe. An unforgettable experience. And would have been even if I weren't in Brazil.

I loved reading your pleasures. This meme brings out such interesting complexities in people. And I love that you made it a meme that people could choose to post rather than you tagging specific people. That's so in the spirit of the meme, to somehow alter the meme.

Mojo,

Please do! I'd love to learn more about you since you're quite new to me.

Ian,

I have wanted to visit the South Pacific all my life. You can't imagine how thrilled I was to find a Samoan-English dictionary at Barnes & Noble in NYC when I was a teen and it was still a text book store.

But isn't it wonderful that I still have that trip ahead of me?

David,

Of course you do, probably the book-buying one. Sorry about the stray tear, though.

Chani,

There you go -- you already have the first one on your list! Only 17 to go.

Sweet Pea,

Idiots who throw lighted cigarettes out car windows start wildfires like the devastating ones we just had in Southern California. They should all be arrested.

Pool,

If I'm creative, it's more fun than just spewing obscenity and hatred.

And when I'm having fun, it dissipates my anger somewhat, always a good idea.

Eslocura,

As a big fan of yours, I can't wait to read what you post on this one.

Thank you!

No Regrets,

Knowing this, your name makes perfect sense. Now if I could just get to Brazil, which I've always wanted to do anyway.

Voice,

I enjoyed this one, but don't feel that way about some memes, so I thought I'd put it out there for whoever wants to do it.

Voyager,

I was an actor but got sidetracked by life. Sometimes I contemplate doing it again, but doubt that I will as life turned out to be pretty wonderful, too.

Okay, so I don't say this to just anybody: oooooooo, yuuuuuum.

Inspirational.

Will whirl it a give sometime soon. (And advise when thusly done, per request.)

Thank you for more. It's good to receive. Theatre, eh? Hmmm. Interesting, velly.

"Believing that if I only had chocolate cake, everything would be better." I can relate to that. This will probably be on my tombstone.

My older brother once stowed away on a ship to Japan when he was in his early 20s. Every night he went into the casino and gambled, and by the end of the trip he had won enough money to pay his fare. But the shipping line refused to take his money, they got such a kick out of what he did.

What the hell is it with chocolate cake and women?! Just fucking eat it already... (sorry)I just really wanted to comment on your 'photos' but the cake issue distracted me. Your photographs are great by the way but it sounds like to me you just need to take a vacation in the South Pacific and hang glide- that would probably clear up a lot of things.

Beautiful. Hang gliding and the South Pacific are on my list, too, though I think I'd have to put acting on my "abandoned" list. The more my outward behavior matches how I'm feeling inside, the less desire I have to act. Is that strange? It was my only true outlet for years.

And I love that picture of the father with his daughter. Beautiful!

But p.s. If you do go back to theatre, please invite us. It would be such fun to come and see you!

Dig deep. Find the courage to submit your writing to a publisher! What you write is better by far than a lot of published stuff out there. Those people have balls....I suspect you could find some too. Do it!

heartinsanfrancisco said...

Psycho T,

I'll look forward to reading your sixes when you're done.

Josie,

What a wonderful story about your brother! Especially the part about the shipping line not accepting his payment.

When I was 22, I went to Europe on a student ship out of Montreal. Ron Silver, the actor, was a stowaway. He was the most arrogant asshole I had ever met, and every time I see him on TV, I wonder if he still is.

Probably. Only now he can afford the fare.

R.D.

No one will be happier (or more surprised) when that South Pacific vacation comes along. I could definitely scuttle chocolate for a never-ending supply of mangoes.

Thanks for your visit.

Angela,

I know what you mean. Something stirs in me when I see particularly good acting, but I have grown increasingly comfortable in my own life and no longer need to portray others.

Molly,

I can't thank you enough for your encouragement. It's strange how those balls disappear when it comes to promoting myself.

It's so fun to learn more about you. I also share the mythology that chocolate cake makes things better. In fact, I'm pretty sure if we tested it side by side with prozac, chocolate cake would win! :)

This is a good meme - I'm tempted.... Maybe after I pick my sexiest man of the year.

heartinsanfrancisco said...

Claudia,

If I'm going to get fat, I would prefer to do it with chocolate cake, not Prozac.

I would very much like to know who you consider the sexiest man of the year, and will definitely stay tuned.

And when you look at the ones that you used to feel guilty about but got over, do you then realize how much you should go ahead and do the ones you secretly want to...like sending your writing to a publisher? (okay, get an agent who could do that for you).

You are publishable. You are adorable.

heartinsanfrancisco said...

Jocelyn,

I would really like to submit some writing but I know that unagented work is either not accepted or goes into a slush pile, and I have no idea how to find an agent.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. It means SO MUCH coming from you, both because you teach creative writing and because you're a fantastic writer yourself.

Rebecca said...

"Submitting my writing to a publisher"

You must. After a while you get very used to rejection. trust me. and you're such a good writer that you'll probably get inundated with acceptances anyway!

Rebecca said...

"unagented work is either not accepted or goes into a slush pile, and I have no idea how to find an agent."

are you writing fiction??? you need to write a smashing good query letter! I'd be happy to help you....it's easy peasy.....can be done by email.....agents will either ask to see your work ...or not. If you can write a compelling query letter that gets an agent interested you've passed the first hurdle.

email me at
hilbec281@optusnet.com.au
if you want some help with trying to get an agent!

heartinsanfrancisco said...

Rebecca,

You are so very kind. I have a childhood memoir that I've been working on. I've always believed that if I could get through this which is choking me, I could then write the fiction I really want to write.

I would be most grateful for any help or advice you can offer. Thank you so much!!
