Quaintness and Absurdity in Everyday Life

Today I saw a homeless man crossing the street in the rain, covering his head with a copy of the San Francisco Home Buyer's Guide. He was splashed and nearly turned into roadkill by a woman in an Escalade who was busy on her phone.

He tipped his dripping magazine at her departing hulkiness and exclaimed, "God bless you, lady."

It makes you wonder... Is he a saint or a nutjob, and are they mutually exclusive?

Beautiful story.

I like pieces like this that make me think. I truly hope the Escalade driver heard what the man said and took it to heart.

He might be that "savior" the Christians are all waiting for, but since he doesn't have a dime I'll bet he'll be ignored.

Better than crucified, although it doesn't make the point nearly as well.

Definitely not mutually exclusive. I hope.

I absolutely love this post, Heart. Fingerprints of the divine in the most unexpected places.

Lex,

I hope not, too.

This was actually my very first post on June 13th when I wasn't sure what direction my blog would take. In fact, that was the blog's original title. I lost everything after about 10 posts and had to put Humpty Dumpty together again as best I could remember.

That man definitely caught a piece of my heart. I think there really are angels among us whose purpose is to remind us of love and kindness, which seem to be in such short supply sometimes.
