This is War

Discovery Communications, the parent company of The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC and others known for their wildlife-focused programs is planning to produce an 8-part TV show on Sarah Palin’s Alaska. She will be paid $1,000,000.00 per episode. This is wrong on so many levels that I struggle to comprehend how they have not managed to connect the dots.

Discovery regards Palin as "one of Alaska's proudest daughters." I think they mean "richest." Because she is famous, personable, attractive and comfortable before the cameras, they are somehow, inexplicably, missing the fact that she also escalated a bloody aerial wolf-slaughter campaign that continues to this day, and even planned to offer a $150 bounty for the severed forelimb of each brutally murdered wolf. She also fought against increased protections for endangered Cook Inlet Beluga whales and for America's dwindling populations of polar bears. Sarah Palin is America's most unrepentant destroyer of wildlife, and her policies while Governor of Alaska pillaged her state's immense natural beauty for fun and profit.

That money would be better used by organizations dedicated to the preservation of wildlife and wild places. Please sign Defenders of Wildlife's petition now, demanding that Discovery Communications reconsider this grave insult to all who depend on their shows to celebrate our natural heritage, not its destruction.

That picture breaks my heart. How i loathe Sarah Palin. I'm on it.

Bob,

Thank you!

Babe,

And YOU. Together we can accomplish far more than any solitary voice crying in the wilderness.

Meno,

I know you are. She should not be celebrated and enriched for her "work" with wildlife. I wish karma were not so damn slow.

Horrid woman, horrid idea. Thanks for the education.

I shudder to think what bizarre slant this programme would take. And the amount they plan to pay is obscene. The picture of the wolf is shocking, I hope the petition to cancel the programmes succeeds.

Signed it the day it came out. Why is anyone feeding this troglodyte from the backwoods of nowhere a damn dime to be on TV. she is the walking definition of vapid.

Reporting for duty. I have signed the petition and thrown my nuts at her. She is indeed the pin-up girl for redneck nature exploiters.

I wonder why she ordered the slaughter of the wolves. Maybe they had presented a serious danger.

Done and DONE.
And posted on FB; I have a lot of friends on their who love wolves and wildlife and this will spread like wildfire... we will stop her!

Lisa,

She is horrid. She has no heart, but her cash register works really well.

Nick,

I hope so too, but not with any real conviction that it will be. If Discovery could even conceive of such a series hosted by her, they are not likely to get it UNLESS they fear losing their audience.

Mark,

Vapid is the least of it, and I suspect that she is smarter than I gave her credit for during the campaign, or at least even wilier. She has some highly intelligent supporters, which worries me.

Calvin,

I am still shocked at this development. The obscene amount of money is the least of it. She is ruthless, bloodthirsty and vicious, scary as a candidate for national office, but a complete travesty on anything concerning wild animals and the environment.

Dolores,

No, wolves present no danger and in fact, they play an important role in keeping the environment in balance. Palin helped sponsor derbies to shoot them from airplanes for "sport." She authorized poisoning their dens and has sworn to rid Alaska of wolves forever.

Wolves are highly intelligent and beautiful animals with a well-developed social order. They are the ancestors of dogs and have many of the same traits of loyalty, sweetness, generosity and devotion. They should be protected, not murdered.

Scarlett,

Great work! The more exposure, the better our chances of quashing this insult to anyone who actually cares about the animals who share our world.

Thanks for the link - I just signed. I am so disgusted with the Discovery Channel for selling out.

Tara,

Thank YOU! I also posted it on Facebook. It's important.

Agent,

That's how I feel, too, and the only way to make them understand is to hit them in their numbers.

When I read that a while ago I decided to cross Discovery Channel off my list of watchables. How fucking cynical can you be? Sarah will draw viewers so they snatched her up. I already knew about the wolf cull thing, but thanks for the reminder.

Ian,

Good for you! I think that killing their ratings ie numbers of watchers is the only way to reach them because if they actually cared about the natural world which has profited them so bountifully, they would not have even considered this abomination of bad casting.

Omigod, that picture breaks my heart. Where do I sign up?

Jo,

There is a link to "Defenders of Wildlife Petition" in the last paragraph of my text. I'm sorry about the ghastly picture, but if it makes people more aware of the reality, then I think it's worth it.

I can't believe she didn't sink into the obscurity she deserves after the election......You would expect that being from Alaska, she would want to protect rather than exploit its wildlife and its beauty. As you said, couldn't karma get a move on?

Molly,

Sarah Palin is the kind of person who exploits rather than serves. Alaska is her stepping stone to national office and everything she does is calculated to accomplish it. In my view, anyone who slaughters sentient animals is heartless, even though she wears nice clothes while doing so.
