Still Stupid After All These Years

The photo accompanying this post gives new meaning to the word "mug" shot, which should probably be changed to "mugging" or perhaps, "simpering" shot. Las Vegas police claim that Paris Hilton was released within three hours of her arrest on suspicion of cocaine possession to avoid disruption of jail house operations.

Several people, including a woman who regularly posts bonds for hookers detained for nonviolent soliciting, are outraged that the hotel heiress received special treatment. It is, indeed, shocking that the legal justice system could be so crass, so unjust. So predictable. Hilton is scheduled to appear in court on the felony charge in October. Last month, she was briefly arrested in South Africa for smoking pot during a World Cup match but the charge was dismissed. Apparently her family's influence works in any currency.

In the incident on August 27th, Ms. Hilton and her boyfriend, Cy Waits, were stopped by police because their Escalade was emitting a trail of pot smoke and Waits was driving erratically, for which he was charged with DUI. She opened her purse in front of a police lieutenant and a bag of cocaine fell out. She claims that neither the purse nor the cocaine was hers, and that she was merely looking for a chapstick. The purse must have belonged to one of her girlfriends, who was not identified. (The World Cup weed wasn't hers either. I'm not sure if ownership of the boyfriend has been determined.)

If stupidity were a crime, I doubt she would ever get out.

"Money, money changes everything" to quote Cyndi Lauper.

Must be nice.

Money, wealth and reputation invariably guarantee more lenient treatment than that meted out to us ordinary folk. Hard to see what you can do about it - even so-called socialist revolutions just result in a different elite being equally pampered.

But...But...She's too pretty to be in jail. Just ask her, she'll be more than happy to tell you that.

As in most things in life now, all things are possible if you have money, plenty of money. There is such a huge huge gap between the have and have nots now, it is so discouraging. The greed and selfishness of the wealthy people is more apparent every day. I am so glad I don't watch TV so I don't have to be bombarded with news and so called news of corporate shenanigans and wealthy spoiled snots.

I'm sure her parents are very proud of her.

I see her life up against the mass of humanity in true dire straights, and it makes me sick. She should become an aid worker in Laos or something. Learn what life is really about.

Aw, poor baby. Don't you feel just the teeniest bit sympathetic to her, what with being mentally challenged and all? Nah, me neither. What a waste of good oxygen.

Meno,

I infinitely prefer Cyndi Lauper to Paris Hilton.

Nick,

That's a good point. It's as if the human species is programmed to produce the same systems over and over - only the players change.

Mark,

Not my type.

Babe,

Burning my TV now.

Tara,

Like that will ever happen. They probably are proud of her -- after all, they raised her.

Ian,

Maybe she'll be a cockroach in her next life.

Lisa,

Or a leech. Oh, wait.

Maybe the Hilton chain could take over the prisons and give them a makeover so that Paris would be more comfortable.

Calvin,

And they could hire Martha Stewart, who knows the territory, to decorate the cells.

I am so in agreement about the use of the word "simpering" here. That woman just simpers. I can't imagine having all that money and being so vapid. She could be doing so many great things!

Wrong, so wrong. Reminds me of the "Cheers" Kirstie Alley character wailing on one episode, "I am too dumb to live!"

She claims the purse wasn't hers, and yet on her Twitter account a couple of months ago she posted a picture of a new purse she had just bought, and guess what...? Same purse.

There is definitely a different set of rules for these people, and the sad thing is, they know it.

I think leeches, as revolting as they are, are still thought by some people to have healing powers through bloodletting. Paris Hilton has rageletting powers for me. I rarely feel angry but she has a cathartic majesty that allows me the joy of shaking my fist at the television and shouting bad words and sometimes that feels fantastic. (I had a dream and you were in it... this is a separate thought but I hate wasting space.)

Maria,

You don't think jetting around the world buying cool stuff is doing great things? Well damn, girl. You're hard to please. Her smirk makes MY open palm itch.

Agent,

I think Paris Hilton lacks such self-awareness.

Jo,

No kidding! She posted a picture of it on Twitter? What a twit.

Sadness depends on your POV. I doubt she cries herself to sleep over the inequity.

Lisa,

So you're saying she does serve a useful purpose in the world. Who knew?

I was in your dream? Cool. If you're comfortable emailing me, I'd love to hear it, but if not, no problem -- I know you don't publish your email address because I've looked.

Heehee, I have no idea where your email address is hidden in the maze but if you can direct me I will write to you. (Funny, you are the second person today to point out that I did not publish my email address and I did not even know it was possible for me to do that. I am off to go and figure out that mystery too...)

Lisa,

My email address is NOW on my profile page. I had forgotten that I removed it awhile ago.

If you would like to post yours, click "edit profile" and under "privacy" it will give you the choice of showing it or not.

"Louie, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

Lisa,

I see you already posted it. Yayyyy!

The mug shot is classic. I wish I could be so smug if I ever get arrested. She acts like it's one big joke.

heartinsanfrancisco said...

Sweet Pea,

I hate that smug smirk so much that I scoot past it when I'm looking at my own blog.

I'm sure she does consider it a big joke because she usually skates. She has probably already forgotten her two weeks in jail for DUI a few years ago.
